WHO WE ARE
Fiddlers of the Genesee (FOG) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing together people for the purpose of preserving, promoting, and stimulating the tradition of old-time fiddling in the Genesee River area of New York State and to play a variety of fiddle music with emphasis on the following:
- Musical participation
- Encouragement of musical development
- Non-competitive fellowship
- Acoustic instrumentation
- Education of members and the public about old-time fiddling
OUR MUSIC
We play a genre of acoustic folk music commonly called “old time fiddle music”. Much of this music has been passed down from musician to musician through the generations as far back as the 17th century to as recently as the 1980’s. Audiences, young and old, consistently respond favorably to the lively fiddle music featuring reels from the Appalachian mountains, Irish jigs and hornpipes, Texas western swing tunes, Bluegrass breakdowns, Civil War and other Americana ballads and, of course, sweet waltzes. The music is timeless and universal in its appeal to all audiences.

WHERE WE PLAY
The Fiddlers of the Genesee offers two categories of performances:
COMMUNITY OUTREACH PERFORMANCES
During the winter months FOG performs, free of charge, at local nursing homes and other senior care centers. We look forward to these occasions as an opportunity to brighten the spirits of people who cannot come out to our regular concerts. Furthermore, we enjoy these gigs at least as much as our audiences do!
SUMMER SEASON PERFORMANCES
From late spring through early fall, FOG performs before the public at festivals throughout the Greater Rochester area. FOG also presents a variety of old-time fiddle music programs at libraries, museums, art galleries, historical sites and town gazebos.
During the summer season, FOG charges a fee on par with other high-quality acoustic music groups in the Greater Rochester area. In keeping with the FOG status as a not-for-profit corporation, all of our performance fees are used to further the FOG goals of preserving and promoting the tradition of old-time fiddle music in the area of upstate New York. When requested, FOG can provide our own sound system at performances.
